Biodiversity Project
Our NGO is already implementing a project on Biodiversity in the Kolhapur Distrct of Maharashtra State, India. This section describes all the activities under the projects with flora and fauna found during implementation of the project.
Attacus atlas
The Atlas moth, is a large saturniid moth endemic to the forests of Asia. Dusty-green caterpillars hatch after approximately two weeks and feed evergreen plants. They are adorned with white, waxy, fleshy spines along their backs, which become more prominent at later instars. The majority of the time their first meal is their egg-shell. Chemoreceptor’s are located on their feathery antennae. |
Boiga beddomei
It is commonly known as Beddome's cat snake, is a species of rear-fanged snake in the family Colubridae. The species is endemic to the Western Ghats of India. B. beddomei is a slender snake. The head is distinct from the neck. The vertebral scales are strongly enlarged. The dorsum is grayish brown with dark brown vertebral cross bars. The ventral surface is yellowish-cream, densely powdered with blackish spots. B. beddomei feeds mainly on geckos and skinks. B. beddomei is oviparous |
Turdus merula
The common blackbird is a species of true thrush. It is also called the Eurasian blackbird, or simply the blackbird where this does not lead to confusion with a similar-looking local species. This species is monogamous, and the established pair will usually stay together as long as they both survive. The common blackbird is omnivorous, eating a wide range of insects, earthworms, seeds and berries. It feeds mainly on the ground, running and hopping with a start-stop-start progress.

Dysphania percota
The blue tiger moth, is a moth of the family Geometridae that can be found in India. It is similar to Dysphania palmyra, but differs in the whole apical area of the forewings being deep purple from the discocellular spot and postmedial line to outer margin, with two small blue spots below the sub-costals and one on inner margin near outer angle. Hindwings never with any trace of yellow.

Papilio polymnestor
Blue Mormon, is a large swallowtail butterfly found in south India and Sri Lanka. It is the "state butterfly" of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The eggs are laid singly on the upper surfaces of the leaves on rutaceous plants at ten feet or so above the ground. The newly laid egg is spherical and light green but darkens over time to orange yellow

Dendrelaphis girii
Dendrelaphis girii or Giri's bronzeback tree snake.is a species of diurnal, arboreal, Colubrid snake endemic to the Western Ghats of southwestern India. Named after Varad Giri, the curator of the herpetological collection of the Bombay Natural History Society. He contributed enormously to the knowledge of the Indian reptiles by his own research and by making the BNHS collection easily available for all kind of researchers.
